Back to Education Initiative (BTEI)
The aim of the Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) is to give adults an opportunity to combine return to learning with family, work and other commitments. Under the BTEI, South Dublin Adult Education Service offers a wide range of part-time, flexible and innovative education opportunities.
Tuition is free for those:
- In receipt of a Social Welfare payment and their dependents
- Who hold a medical card and their dependents
- Who left school without completing second level education
Courses
Currently courses being offered through BTEI include:
- Childcare Certificate FETAC Level 5
- Special Needs Assistant Programme ( Community Care Certificate FETAC Level 5)
- Organic Gardening FETAC Level 3 and 4

- Return to Learning – FETAC Level 3
- Return to Work – FETAC Level 3
- Information Technology – FETAC Level 3 & 4
- Education for life – FETAC Level 3
- Preparation for Work – FETAC Level 3
- Office Procedures FETAC Level 3& 4

At present there are a number of BTEI courses held in the Dundrum area and Shankill.
